Laurenana had been running for days and as much as she loved it, she couldn't run forever. Her chest ached and her breathing was labored. She would have to stop soon or her paws would begin to bleed, leaving a tempting trail for other predators.
Her golden eyes scanned the landscape. The long grass was perfect for hiding in and her soul cried out to the Autumn sky. Life was beautiful here in this new and exciting place.
A sweet scent made its way to Laurenana's nose, the scent of prey. The black she-wolf felt her heart leap with joy for she hadn't eaten for some time. She inhaled deeply the fresh air, calming herself. Nerves would only let the prey get away.
Eagle's eyes scanned the long grass, watching for signs of movement. She moved her snout about, catching the scent of a rabbit. She moved down wind of her target, it sat so innocently gnawing on grass. Body low to the ground, she crept forward silently and pounced. The rabbit glanced at her and fled, bounding away with all its strength.

Acteon glanced around before exposing himself to the briefly short patch of grass. He looked about himself again, this was probably the only patch or grass this short for a good while, and it still came to his knees, tickling the fur at his cream hued belly when he walked. He glanced back over his shoulder at the forest he had just come from; he could still find something to eat in their midst instead of hunting in the field, but the dancing smells of the abundance of rabbits here was tempting.
He absently placed a chocolate paw forward, slowly turning his head back toward the field. Acteon had always enjoyed hunting rabbits, and he favoured the taste. He started out at a trot, quickly finding himself immersed in the long grass. Keeping his head low to the ground, he slowed when he caught the scent of one of the many rabbits, a male as far as he could tell. He stopped for a moment trying to make an estimate as to the prey's location, sniffing carefully at the air close to the ground. It scent seemed to be getting stronger.
With a start he realised the rabbit was coming toward him. It had happened before, rabbits could be rather jumpy and rarely stayed in one spot for too long, though it still surprised him. Acteon stood for a moment watching patiently for the rabbit to run into him, as he was certain it would, ready to grasp the creature around the neck the moment he saw it. His muscles tensed in anticipation, ready to spring at any moment.

Laurenana turned suddenly as the smell of a new wolf entered her nostrils. Unimpressed that her paradise had been invaded and that the rabbit had escaped she stalked further away from the wolf.
Another rabbit hopped by and Laurenana moodily swiped at it, clipping it enough to knock it off its feet. She pounced on it and was about to kill it, but she couldn't. Laurenana didn't have the heart to kill the rabbit. She thought it was someone's child, someone's mate, someone's parent. After all she had been through, she wasn't hungery enough to kill it.
She turned around and slunk towards the other wolf. Her golden eyes quickly spotted him amongst the long grass. Making sure she was down wind she observed him eating a rabbit. Her ears tilted forward and her eyes flicked over his whole body, analysing his body language and making sure she hadn't been spotted.

Acteon, contented with his hunt, hardly noticed the other rabbits running around trying to avoid him. Often, although their smell was acute and even a frog with a blocked nose could smell the blood hanging thick in the air, they would skid around in the grass near him. The grass would bend and rustle with their panicked movements, but still he ignored them. The sounds were normal, even such commotion happened in the most serene and undisturbed of places.
He felt no remorse at killing the furry creature - it was all part of the way of survival - but he could remember once thinking them more as toys then of food. Of course, he had been a puppy at the time, but his innocent view on his next dinner still cause him to smile, if not a grim one at that. Acteon kept the blood on his fur to a minimum. It was a hard habit to preserve at the times when his taste leaned more toward deer or elk.
Between the thick smell of blood and the overwhelming scent of fresh prey he caught the whiff of another; Acteon, taking a deep drag of the air, could just pick up the scent, barely. He hadn't long since started his meal. His auds flicked around as he careful, and as discretely as he could manage, sniffed at the air about him, trying to pick up a possible position; he could not pick up anything more of the scent.
Acteon reasoned that, because his nose was young and accurate, he could not have imagined it. He had been sure he had smelt another, the scent stood out among the rabbits and small prey. The stranger was probably downwind from him. Shrugging inwardly, he turned his head to look that way. He thought he could make out the other's form in the grass, although he was hesitant to be sure.

Laurenana watched as the brute turned his head to her. She was invisible, she thought, but suddenly she wasn't so sure. He couldn't have smelt her, she was down wind. Her whole body tensed. She was afraid of him...
Laurenana cursed to herself. She shouldn't be afraid. He reminded her of one of the wolves that had encouraged the alpha female to attack her. A quiet growl escaped from her mouth, her ears pulled back and she bared her teeth. Her legs tensed, ready to run in a split second. She dropped her body low to the ground and scanned her surrounding with her golden eyes.
They weren't too bad, plenty of routes of escape to more sheltered land where Laurenana's agility would give her the edge overt he brute. Her biggest concern was that she didn't know how fast he could run, though she had met few wolves that could keep up with her.
She stepped backwards and adjusted her weight. She glared at him with her golden eyes. She had everything covered...except if he was nice...

Acteon stared a moment longer, his eyes seemed to loose what at first he had thought to be another among the grass. He was sure he had seen something, his mind seldom played such tricks on him. He hesitated a moment considering what he should do, even though he had already made his mind up.
Without another moments hesitation he scooped up the remains of the rabbit, as he figured anyone about in these fields would be after an easy meal, and he cautiously made a couple of steps in the direction he had been looking. Acteon didn't want to scare anyone off. He was actually feeling rather lonesome; he could use with some company. Besides, even if whoever it was didn't wish to talk, who could refuse the offer of a free meal?
With the half torn dead rabbit hanging out of his mouth he took a few more steps, keeping his head down so as to appear less frightening. Being male had it's disadvantages at times, it wasn't his choice to be larger then a fae, or even some other males. Acteon, with no way of really talking with the small animal in his mouth, cleared his throat in an introductory manner.
He idly realised that if there was someone about, perhaps watching him from somewhere else, he would look very foolish offering a rabbit to the grass.

Laurenana watched the brute approach. He lowered his head. Laurenana considered the gesture. Aside from offering food, he also appeared to be friendly. However, Laurenana considered, he might be trying to attack her by first tempting her out of the grass.
Damn it Laurenana! She scolded herself. He was friendly, she was positive. Creeping out from her hiding place, she kept herself as far away from the dark pelted male as possible. She locked eyes with him, her golden staring deeply into the teal, looking into his mind, into his soul. She glanced down at the rabbit and sniffed warily.
She stepped back a stood a little taller. She wasn't sure how to approach this wolf. She hadn't seen another wolf, let alone a male, for months and a nice wolf even longer. She cautiously looked between the brute and the rabbit and waited, but whilst she waited for him to speak her mind raced.
She glanced around at her escape options and planned her route should the brute turn on her. She envisioned herself diving into the long grass and weaving her way back into the forest. She wondered if it was necessary, whether she should be afraid. She was fairly large for a fae but he could easily be much stronger. A small thought crossed her mind, of finding herself a new home, a new pack, a new life. She dismissed it and turned her thoughts back to reality. She watched the dark pelted wolf, waiting for him to speak.

Acteon was relieved when the fae appeared, as if out of nowhere it seemed, from the grass where he had thought her to be. He had had no doubt in his mind he had smelt another, and there had been someone near, but he had had no real way of knowing where exactly. At least he hadn't been made a fool as far as he was concerned; he could feel the pride of having not been wrong swell in his chest. He forced the foolish pride away almost as quickly as it had come. After all, it had not so much as been a personal accomplishment to prove his nose right, it had been the opportunity at finding a friend.
Acteon felt a little uncomfortable in the tense atmosphere, but he could see in the faes eyes that she was only wary of him. She should be, he would be, he was just a stranger, a male one at that, and every lone fae should be educated enough to be wary. He knew from experience some of the many brutes that stalked the lands and he prided himself on his difference. This femme would probably fare against a brute better then some of the smaller faes he had seen, but the outcome would probably be the same for her if she should cross one. The thought sorrowed him.
Acteon took a step back from the rabbit himself, not wishing to intimidate her. 'You look like you could use then energy better then me' He nodded his head at the carcass with a small smile. In all honestly he thought the poor thing needed more then a little bit of food - a good rest would probably be a start.

Laurenan smiled warily at the brute as he offered her the half eaten rabbit. She stepped closer and pulled the rabbit towards her and ate greedily. She looked back at the brute and mumbled a thanks. The food was good and she appreciated it, but she was still a little suspicious of his motives.
She stepped back a little and stood up as tall as she could be. She was up to about his shoulder, so she rasped her head to look him in the eye. Keeping herself in a neutral stance, she shuffled gracefully on her feet. She never was able to stand still.
Clearing her throat, she began to address the dark pelt, as she liked to call them.
"Thanks for the food...dark pelt" Her golden eyes glanced around and her ears flicked left and right in case there were more than one of them. "I haven't eaten in some time." A flicker of a smile ran across her face. She generally didn't trust males, but she could always do with a companion for a short while.
"What's your name dark pelt?" Her voice was quiet and low. If she knew his name she might be able to find out more about this stranger who had invaded her paradise.

Acteon smiled warmly as the fae accepted the offer of his rabbit. He nodded at her thanks; he didn't wish to interrupt her eating. She had definitely been hungry, and with the way she ate the small kill he began to wonder how exactly how long she had been hungry. Although, she still looked remarkably fit, so he reasoned it mustn't have been very long.
The fae seemed wary, and somewhat cautious. Acteon knew that a lone fae should be, but he was curious as to why she was so on edge. He sat back on his haunches as she spoke, feeling a little more comfortable knowing that the fae had trusted him enough to accept some of his food. He smiled slightly at her referring to him as dark pelt; he hardly ever gave notice to his coat's colour, but he had considered in the past that perhaps a lighter brown would be better suited to him.
'Acteon' He answered 'And the food was not a problem; it is not too difficult to catch something so long as there's something to catch.' Acteon let his ears wander, having a brief listen to his surroundings, just to assure himself that there was no other on the prowl for a meal. He didn't wish a fight should someone come along and demand it. Better safe then sorry. 'What's your name?' he asked, returning his full attention to the black fae.

Laurenana watched him cautiously as he answered her question. He was relaxed, too relaxed for Laurenana's liking.
"Laurenana is my name, Acteon." Her voice could barely be heard over the wind. She relaxed a little, more comfortable around the dark pelt. "What brings you to this land?"
She turned her head sideways, her golden eyes stared into his questioningly, scanning his soul. She heard a noise, the sound of grass moving under foot. She darted away a little and frowned. Returning to her previous position she reared up onto her hind legs and shifted from forepaw to forepaw nervously as she waited for Acteon to reply.

Acteon watched the fae cautiously, her nervousness was slightly unsettling, and he wondered briefly if she had been running from something. He dismissed the thought quickly; it would be best to avoid thoughts like that, least he judge her for what he thought and not who she was. It was the past that made you, not something to condemn another over - he knew that more then anyone.
He stifled a yawn, hoping Laurenana would notice and take it the wrong way, he had had hardly enough sleep last night - he had been dreaming again. Acteon felt he should have said something about her name, maybe to give her some calm, but she didn't waste time interrogating him. He smiled, more to himself really, at how she seemed unable to hold herself too still for too long. If he was to forget her face then he would recognise her by her manner.
'I travelled here some time ago' he said in answer to her question, although he knew it hadn't actually answered it 'and I have remained here since; it is a welcoming land, I think - such a hard thing to come by.' 'And what brings you here Laurenana?' he asked, curiosity delicately lacing his tone; he expected a vague answer, much like he had given her.

Laurenana noticed the stifled yawn and was confused. He had been the one to intiate the conversation and he was the one being so rude as to wish to end it. She snarled a little ta his manner.
"How did I get here?" She spoke more aggressively, her mood was known to swing form one extreme to the other. "I was chased away from my pack by the alpha female and a number of brutes. I have been running for my life." She stopped suddenly, her eyes flicking to the long grass behind the male.
Suddenly, Laurenana jumped, arching gracefully over Acteon and landing hand on top of a rabbit. The food she had earlier made her hungry again and she quickly tore into the body of the small creature. She turned back to face Acteon and smiled a little, more confident in the land.

Acteon reacted instinctively as she jumped his way; he ducked. He flicked his ears against his skull in annoyance as Laurenana jumped clear of him, attacking a rabbit instead. He had just been thinking over her tale. It thought it an unfair injustice to be driven from a pack; the way she described it seemed as if she had been driven away for no real reason. But he didn't assume it.
'Why were you driven away?' he asked curiously, turning himself to face her once more, and watching as she hungrily tore at the rabbit. If she truly had been running for her life it now made a lot of sense that she was starved; he wouldn't stop to catch food if he was running from death, and running without rest or food was exahsting to say the least.
At least she looked more confident, Acteon doubted Laurenana would have even attempted such a move before she had come to even know his name, let alone when she had first lay eyes on him.

Laurenana chuckled quietly as Acteon ducked. She had always enjoyed seeing people's reactions to her spontaneous acrobatics and the brute's was no exception.
Finished off the rabbit she frowned at his next question. Her memories were terrible and painful; she doubted if he would trust her story. She backed away slowly, changing stances as the horror swirled in her mind. She crept backwards, pulling her ears back and her tail between her legs.
"If you ever meet a grey brute by the name of Christoph or a white pelted female by the name of Shala ask them." She snarled the names of the wolves. "Because I doubt you would believe me if i told you."
With that she turned a ran further along the feild, disappearing into the grass. She wasn't leaving the area, just running to de-stress. She stopped, panting and glanced behind her to see if Acteon had given the chase.
